Jazz Piano: an Introduction to Playing and Teaching

21-23 September, 2007

A practical introduction to jazz improvisation, aimed at classical piano teachers with little or no jazz experience. Explore how to use and put together rhythm, melody and harmony in different jazz styles. Gain the confidence to teach improvisation and learn how to incorporate it into your teaching. This intensive weekend course will be based on the ABRSM syllabus and directed by Charles Beale, examiner and author of Jazz Piano from Scratch.

Improvisation on the Violin

2-4 November, 2007

Look at different styles of improvisation on the violin -gypsy jazz, standard jazz, song accompaniment, blues and rock. Jamming until all hours is not compulsory but is very likely! You are asked to prepare Autumn Leaves in G minor. Violinists with improvisation experience, and those new to improvisation of minimum Grade 6 standard are equally welcome. Free spaces, on a non-resident basis with the possibility to be resident, may be offered to guitarists and a bassist who want to form a rhythm section.
